Gallery: August 2012

Olympic fever has certainly taken hold this month, as submissions for August’s ‘Sport’ theme came flooding in.

With such a fantastic variation on interpretation, from recreational to competitive sport, it’s really difficult to select just one photograph for Image of the Month, so I am turning the tables on our followers and hoping you will be able to decide for me. Continue reading

Gallery: July 2012

Two months since a gallery post…so what’s been happening? Although there was no official monthly meeting in June, it was still a busy month for Ockbrook. As well as a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, and welcoming lots of photography enthusiasts to our marquee at this year’s Derbyshire County Show, we also spent a summer evening in the garden, and what a beautiful garden it was too.  More details and images coming shortly to our past events page. So to July…

Inspired by our June garden party ‘A Summer Evening’ was the theme for July. This gave members who weren’t able to come along on the night, the opportunity to enjoy looking at some of the photographs as well as contribute with their own interpretation.

There were some fantastic photos submitted and thanks to everyone who participated. Look out for a touch of romance from Martin, as well as images from two new members who joined us for the first time this month; Maggie’s colourful kingfisher and Phil’s diverse seascapes. Anyway, it’s been a while since I have selected an Image of the Month, so for July I have chosen this photograph taken by Jayne Seagrave.

Summer makes me think of family time and enjoying the outdoors. Until last week, the weather has been pretty disappointing, as some of the images in the slideshow capture brilliantly, but I found Jayne’s photograph of her daughter simply refreshing. I wonder what she is thinking? Is she smiling or laughing perhaps? I like the idea of not seeing her reaction, it leaves me wondering…her pose suggests to me she is finding her feet, and that mum had to be quick to capture this shot. Thank you Jayne, it’s lovely.
